TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Monetary campaign contributions for Tallahassee mayoral candidate Steve Stewart topped $36,000 during the second quarter of 2010, which exceeded that of incumbent John Marks by more than $14,000.
“With just four weeks remaining until Election Day, I could not be more humbled by the outpouring of support I continue to receive from various people in this community,” said Stewart. “Their generous contributions of time, talent and resources will be the difference in this race.“
Stewart’s campaign continues to gain momentum. During the second quarter, he won straw polls conducted by the Northeast Business Association and the Capital Tiger Bay Club, and received the endorsements of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Tallahassee Board of Realtors.
“Tallahassee deserves a government as good as its people, and I’m grateful for those who believe in my ability to make that happen,” said Stewart. “Together, we can move Tallahassee forward.”
Stewart announced his candidacy in October 2009 with the promise of strengthening the economy, lowering utility rates and creating a more open and responsive city government. In 2008, the small business owner and 14-year consumer advocate founded TallahasseeReports.com, where he broke the deferred compensation story and kept citizens informed about local issues.
Early on in his candidacy, he launched TalGovSpending.com to provide taxpayers with free access to an online database of city expenditures. He also advocated for a citizens utility board, which has since been reactivated.
